The Greatest Poem of World War One: David Jones's In Parenthesis

The-Greatest-Poem-of-WWI.jpg

In Parenthesis by David Jones was called 'a work of genius' by TS Eliot, and hailed by WB Yeats. Yet this literary masterpiece of the First World War is known today mainly to specialists, and has a daunting reputation. Now, poet and author Owen Sheers sets out to understand and uncover the story of In Parenthesis, and of the man who wrote it. Shifting forwards and backwards through time, the programme mirrors the form of the poem itself, offering a new way of looking at one of the greatest long poems in English, and at the war that inspired it.
